Cemeteries

While many of our ancestors have lived and died in the United States the location of these earlier burials is not known.  Following is a list of known burials.

The majority of our American ancestors are buried in the New York City area.  Some are buried in Brooklyn, others in Queens and the remainder in Westchester.   Our 4th Great Grandmother, Elizabeth Mills Stidolph is buried in old Swedes Churchyard in Wilmington, Delaware .

St. Paul's Churchyard is located in what is now Mt. Vernon, New York is the site of some of the oldest known burials.  Joseph Drake, our 5th Great Grandfather is buried here.  Also buried here is his daughter, Hester, our 4th Great Grandmother and her husband, Samuel Bertine.   Samuel's son Peter Bertine is buried here as well.

Green-Wood Cemetery, located in Brooklyn, New York is the resting place of our 2nd Great Grandfather, Henry Stidolph and his wife, Jane Mason.  Also, buried in the family plot is Henry's brother Robert and several of his children.

The Cemetery of the Evergreens, also located in Brooklyn, New York is the final resting place of the families of two other of our 2nd Great Grandfathers, Stewart G.B. Gourlay and James Bowen Brown.  Our remaining 2nd Great Grandfather, John Way was buried in the church yard of the Middle Village Methodist Church.  His wife, Sarah Bertine is buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

We have two sets of Great Grand Parents.  Charles j. Stidolph and his wife, Isabella Gourlay are both buried in the the Cemetery of the Evergreens.  Walter I. Browne and his wife, Susan Way are both buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Maspeth, Queens.

Our Grandmother, Grace Browne is buried in Flushing Cemetery, located in Flushing, New York.  Her husband, and our Grandfather,Charles James Stidolph is buried in the Cemetery of the Evergreens
